What We Believe

“The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.”
― C. S. Lewis

Core Beliefs

The following core beliefs of The Well Church of Philadelphia are rooted in the foundational truths taught in the Holy Scriptures. All of our teaching, discipleship, and ministry flow from and are guided by these biblical doctrines.

God (The Nature of God)

We believe there is one true, eternal, and all-powerful God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of all things, sovereign over history, and actively involved in His creation. He is holy, just, loving, and merciful, and He desires a relationship with humanity. God has made Himself known through Scripture and supremely through Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 6:4 | Isaiah 46:9

The Trinity

God eternally exists as three distinct yet unified persons—Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit—who are co-equal and co-eternal. Each person of the Trinity is fully God and works together in perfect unity. The Father creates and sustains, the Son redeems, and the Holy Spirit empowers. While the Trinity is a mystery, it is essential to understanding God’s nature and His work in the world.

Matthew 28:19 | 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ (The Son of God)

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, willingly gave Himself on the cross for the sins of humanity, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended into Heaven. He will return again to establish God’s Kingdom. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are the cornerstone of the Christian faith and the only means by which humanity can be reconciled to God.

John 1:1 | John 3:16

Humanity (Purpose & Identity)

Humanity is created in the image of God and designed to reflect His character, steward creation, and live in relationship with Him. Every person has inherent value and God-given purpose. Humanity is called to love God, love others, and bear witness to the Gospel.

Genesis 1:27 | Micah 6:8

The Bible (God’s Word)

The Bible is the inspired, authoritative, and trustworthy Word of God. It is the ultimate guide for faith and life, revealing God’s will, character, and redemptive plan. Scripture is true, reliable, and unchanging across all generations.

2 Timothy 3:16

Revelation (God Revealing Himself)

God has revealed Himself through creation, the Scriptures, and most fully through Jesus Christ. He continues to speak to and guide believers through the Holy Spirit, who leads us into truth, convicts hearts, and draws people into repentance and relationship with God.

Hebrews 1:1–2 | Romans 1:20

The Fall (Sin & Separation)

Humanity was created without sin, but through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, sin entered the world. This resulted in spiritual and physical death and separation from God. All people are born with a sinful nature, and sin has brought brokenness, suffering, injustice, and death into creation. Humanity cannot save itself and is in need of redemption through Jesus Christ.

Genesis 3:6 | Romans 3:23

Salvation (By Grace Through Faith)

Salvation is a free gift from God, given by grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It cannot be earned through good works or religious effort. Through faith in Christ, believers are forgiven, reconciled to God, and granted eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8–9 | Romans 10:9

The Church (The Body of Christ)

The Church is the global and local body of believers, called to worship God, grow in faith, serve others, and proclaim the Gospel. The Church is not a building but a people united in Christ, committed to discipleship, mutual encouragement, and faithful witness to the world.

1 Corinthians 12:27

The Resurrection

Jesus Christ rose bodily from the dead on the third day, confirming His divinity and securing victory over sin and death. The resurrection is foundational to the Christian faith and assures believers of their future resurrection and eternal life with God.

1 Corinthians 15:17 | Romans 6:9

Eternal Life & Judgment

Those who place their faith in Jesus Christ will spend eternity with God in Heaven, while those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God. Eternal life is the hope of every believer. Judgment is real, yet God desires that none should perish but that all would come to repentance.

John 14:2–3 | Matthew 25:46
